How many times can you retake the NDHCE?

Nobody plans to retake an exam, but it helps to know the rules before you sit it. How many tries do you get? What happens after a fail?
This guide sticks to what the FDHRC publishes about attempts, rewriting and what you receive if you do not pass.
Short answer
The maximum number of times you can attempt the NDHCE is three. That is the first attempt plus up to two rewrites.
If you fail, you can re-apply at another NDHCE administration.
A candidate who fails receives results and a performance report by email.
How many attempts do you get?
The FDHRC sets the maximum number of NDHCE attempts at three. If you are not successful the first time, you may re-apply at another administration and rewrite it up to two more times before you pass.
Each retake is a new application, so you go through registration again. The dates and deadlines for each sitting are in the guide to NDHCE dates.
What you receive if you don't pass
Candidates who fail receive a report about their general performance across the tested blueprint categories, along with information on how to apply to rewrite.
Failing results are sent by email. Passing results and the certificate are mailed, and the FDHRC offers priority courier for an extra fee.
The FDHRC does not release a specific score, so the performance report is the guide to where to focus before the next attempt.
Can you ask for a rescore?
A failed result can be rescored on request. The request and its fee must reach the FDHRC within 30 calendar days of receiving your results. The fee is in the guide to what the NDHCE costs.
Three attempts in total, a new application each time, and a performance report to help you plan the next try. That is the whole picture.
If you do need to rewrite, start with the dates and deadlines for the next sitting so you do not miss registration.
