How much does the NDHCE cost?

Between registration, taxes and optional prep tests, the real cost of the NDHCE is more than the headline fee. Here is where the money goes.

Everything below comes from the FDHRC's published fee schedule.

Short answer

Registering for the NDHCE costs $850 plus tax, and that includes a $62 non-refundable fee. This is the price for the September 2026 exam onwards.

With tax, the total is between $892.50 and $977.50 depending on where you live. In Ontario, with 13% HST, it's $960.50.

The FDHRC's four prep tests are $37.50 each plus tax, and they're a separate purchase.

The registration fee

The FDHRC's fee schedule lists the NDHCE registration fee at $850 plus applicable tax, for registration for the September 2026 exam onwards. Inside that $850 is a $62 fee, plus tax, that is non-refundable.

The tax depends on where you currently live.

Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Quebec and the territories5% GST$892.50
Ontario, the USA and other countries13% HST$960.50
Nova Scotia14% HST$969.00
Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador15% HST$977.50

The totals are our arithmetic, $850 plus the tax rate on the schedule. Your receipt is what counts.

Register after the deadline and the FDHRC lists a late registration fee of $150 plus tax, on top of the exam fee. It's available for approximately seven calendar days after the regular deadline and is non-refundable.

If you withdraw

What it costs depends on how close to the exam you pull out. The fees are plus tax and non-refundable, and the $62 is the same amount as the non-refundable part of the registration fee.

NDHCE withdrawal fees
When you withdrawFee or refund
15 business days or more before the exam (September 2026 exam onwards)$62 plus tax
Less than 15 business days but more than 2 business days before the first day of the exam$310 plus tax

The withdrawal deadlines for each sitting are in the guide to NDHCE dates.

Prep tests

The FDHRC sells four different but equivalent online prep tests. Each has 75 multiple-choice, single-answer questions and was updated to match the 2026 blueprint. The price is $37.50 each plus tax, non-refundable and paid by credit card, which is $150 plus tax if you buy all four.

After the exam

You only pay these if you need them: a rescore, an appeal or a replacement certificate. Tax is extra on all three. Rescoring is the option for a candidate who failed. A request for reconsideration, for a significant administrative, technological or procedural irregularity during the exam, has to be made no later than 7 calendar days after the exam date.

NDHCE fees after the exam
ServiceFee
Rescoring$206, non-refundable
Appeal$206, non-refundable
Certificate reprint$48

Rescoring is for candidates who failed, and the request and its fee must be made to the FDHRC within 30 calendar days of receiving your results.

Plan for the registration fee plus the tax where you live, and add the prep tests, rescoring or a certificate reprint only if you need them.
